BREAKING: A’ja Wilson makes WNBA history with fifth MVP

A’ja Wilson is officially in uncharted territory.

The Las Vegas Aces superstar has won the 2026 WNBA Most Valuable Player Award, giving her a record fifth MVP trophy and making her the first player in league history to win three consecutive MVP awards, ESPN’s Shams Charania reports.

Wilson previously won MVP in 2020, 2022, 2024 and 2025. Her fifth award puts even more distance between her and the rest of the WNBA’s all-time MVP leaderboard. The WNBA’s official history lists Wilson as the league’s four-time MVP entering this season.

And the numbers behind this year’s award are ridiculous.

Wilson became the first player in WNBA history to average at least 25 points per game while shooting 50% from the field and 40% from three-point range in the same season. Her 26.2 points per game ranked second in WNBA history, trailing only the 26.9 she averaged in 2024.

She also averaged 9.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.9 blocks while helping anchor one of the league’s elite teams.

A’ja Wilson isn’t just adding another award to her résumé.

She’s rewriting the WNBA record book.

And the question is getting harder to ignore:

Are we watching the greatest individual peak in WNBA history?
